Mariel Rodriguez Wanted to Give Daughter a Sibling But Didn't Expect It to Happen Soon

Mariel Rodriguez and Robin Padilla are having another baby girl for their second child!

On Saturday, June 29, 2019, the couple revealed to immediate family and close friends the gender of their second baby whom they fondly tagged as Baby “Surprise.”

Those at the gender reveal party were told to hold off any announcement because Mariel wanted to reveal it first. She did share the happy news the following day, June 30, through her YouTube channel at exactly 9 p.m.

In her vlog, Mariel shared the story behind the nickname she picked for their second baby.

She narrated, “Baby number two was not planned. In my head, I really wanted to give Isabella a sibling.

“Pero gusto ko sana magta-try ako pag 3 years old and above na siya.

“Para ma-explain ko sa kanya nang mabuti na magkakaroon na siya ng kapatid.

“[Isabela] is so selosa so every day, feeling ko hindi pa siya ready.

“Pero maaga binigay ni God yung blessing. Kaya ang nickname ko for this baby is Baby Surprise.”

The It's Showtime host said she kept the gender of their second baby a secret even to her husband Robin up until the party.

She said, “The best part is even si Robin, hindi niya alam. As in this is the biggest secret that I've kept from him. And I tell him everything. Ito yung talagang sinicret ko. There were times na madudulas na ako pero talagang ginalingan ko talaga na i-surprise siya sa gender ng aming baby number two.”

In a short interview before the party, however, Robin was actually thinking their baby was a girl.

The ABS-CBN actor said, “Sa nakikita ko kay Mariel, mukhang babae kasi ang ganda-ganda niya sobrang ngayon. Ang nagugulat ako, minsan hindi ko mabasa kasi ang paglilihi ni Mariel ngayon, matindi. Minsan iniisip ko baka lalaki to kasi yung paghihilo niya ngayon, iba, e. Pati ako nadadamay, e, pati ako nahihilo din, e.”

Whether it would be a girl or a boy, Robin assured, “Walang ano sa akin yun. Babae, lalake, bakla, tomboy...Basta tao, gusto ko yung anak ko makatulong doon sa tradisyon ng pamilya na makatulong doon sa less fortunate.”

In her vlog, Mariel played a guessing game with her guests and her It's Showtime family.

The score: 27 got it right, and 10 guessed it would be a boy.

Among the celebrity guests at Mariel and Robin's gender reveal party were Kylie Padilla, Nadia Montenegro, and celebrity stylist Myrrh Lao To.

Kylie said she knew she would be having another younger sister because she caught Mariel in her slip.

She shared, “Siyempre sobrang happy ako pero nahuli ko kasi si Tita. Magkasama kami ‘tapos nagkukuwento siya about the baby — sabi niya ‘her.’

“Sabi ko, ‘Oh, it's a girl?’ So alam ko na noon pa na tama ako.

“Pero sobrangh happy ako kasi kapatid ko yun. Parang nag-repeat lang na ate ko ‘tapos ako. Sana magkaroon pa sila ng maraming baby. Nakakatuwa lang na mas lalong lumalaki yung family namin.”
