“Any man can be a Father, but it takes a special person to be called Dad” - Anonymous
Father’s day is usually celebrated on the third Sunday of June. This year, it’s my 30th Dad’s day with my Dad and the second year with my husband. My dad, who used to be a seafarer, never experienced being around my mom every time she gave birth. Lucky him, he was home when my mom was giving birth to me—so that’s two out of three. Not bad! My mom would always reminisce and tell me about how my dad would take care of me and how his eyes lit up every time he would see me. This is probably the reason why I’m so close to my dad. He made me his junior—the son he never had.
Plan Father’s Day Ahead, Particularly the Food
Father’s day is not as big a big deal in the Philippines as, let’s say, Mother’s Day. I never really had any memory of us having a big celebration of this day. It’s a pity because dads are just as precious! This year, I got a head start on planning for Father’s day and now I know where to go for my celebration with the two special dads in my life—my Dad and my son’s Dad!
Since going around and being out and about is part of my work—I discovered a great place to eat (and eat healthy, at that)! Since eating is my Dad’s passion—though now, he has to be extra cautious at his age—I thought it would be a great place to take him and my husband.

Crescent Moon Café: A Yummy and Healthy Alternative for Dads
The Crescent Moon Café is owned by ceramicist Lanelle Abueva-Fernando. She is the niece of the National artist for Sculpture—Napoleon Abueva. Her father used to be the University of the Philippines President too. This legacy of the academe and the arts, perhaps, inspired her to take up Japanese pottery. Her husband, being a chef, began The Crescent Moon café. Located in Antipolo City, this studio pottery/café restaurant is so charming with its homey ambience and delicious, healthy food. My Dad and hubby will definitely love it here.
Their staple menu usually consists of their famous Alagaw salad, squash soup with coconut meat, fish fillet with tamarind sauce, fried noodles with chicken, fruits and vegetable platter with cilantro dip, mixed veggies and their signature homemade suman and mango. This will surely be a big hit with the men while being a healthy alternative. Plus, the place is family friendly. So, expect the whole family to enjoy your Father’s Day food treat.
