Over the weekend, your social media feed was probably filled with photos from the ABS-CBN Ball where celebrities, veterans and young idols alike, graced the red carpet in their best formal ensembles to support Bantay Bata 163 (it was what the blue ribbon was all about).
It was a night of glitz and glamor and even celebrity moms joined in on the fun, making a splash at the party in their elegant, sexy, and daring gowns. (See our full list of celebrity moms who wowed us here.)
One of the scene stealers was Jolina Magdangal Escueta, who wowed in a pink, one-shoulder gown with pleats and draping by designer Jo Rubio. She paired the outfit with a sleek side ponytail and a diamond necklace and earrings from JJ Jiao. She looked every inch a queen. (According to Pep.ph, the neck pendant alone has a "seven-digit price tag that is equivalent to a high-end condo unit.")
On her Instagram post the day after the ball, however, the mom of two reveals that her recent childbirth was also the reason why she almost did not attend the party. Jolina gave birth to her second child, Vika, four months ago.
“At first, hesitant ako umattend ng ball kasi kakapanganak ko lang and I don’t feel confident about myself that much pa. Pero nung in-assure ako ng stylist ko na siya ang bahala sa 'kin, nagtiwala ako sa kanya,” the mom writes. “And nung makilala ko ‘yung designer ng gown na isusuot ko (na sobrang bait!) lalo akong na-excite umattend.”
At the end of her post, Jolina shares that she was glad she changed her mind and decided to attend the ball, anyway.
“Yes, I enjoyed the ABS-CBN Ball and I’m glad to be there. Daming friends mula noon at ngayon,” Jolina writes before tagging and thanking her glam team and the designer of her gown. In a separate interview with ABS-CBN, Jolina said she felt excited and she knew she was in good hands with stylists Rainier Dagala and Em Millan.
Her message of body positivity resonated not only with her fans but with other moms as well. After all, the pressure for moms to get back to their pre-pregnant body has never seemed higher than today. Jolina’s real talk highlights the need to support and understand that postpartum recovery, which includes weight loss, is different for every mom. It also shows that one night of just giving in to the pampering, dressing up and getting together with friends count as self-care, too.
And many of her fans seemed to agree that the breastfeeding mama is looking gorgeous than ever. Many of her fans commented that she looked sexy and elegant, and she bore with no trace of giving birth (Jolina humbly replied to this, “Naitago ng gown.”) Even her former love team, Marvin Agustin, commented that he was speechless and could only manage to say, “Whoa!”
One of Jolina’s fans said it best: “Just because you had a few kids doesn’t mean you don’t have it anymore.”
