Eight months after he and Harlene Bautista separated, Romnick Sarmenta is talking about being single and dating again. But he won’t indulge questions about Harlene’s love life. Instead, the dad of five shares how he’s making sure everyone in the family is happy.
“The most important thing is she’s happy. And if she’s happy, I’m good, perfectly good,” Romnick told Pep.ph when asked to comment about Harlene’s alleged boyfriend. The interview was held during the press conference for the upcoming horror film, Clarita headlined by Jodi Sta. Maria.
“I don’t want my kids to see meron isang hindi masaya. Dapat makita nila na pareho kaming okay para masabi nila na, ‘Ah, wala naman palang nagbago, okay naman pala, masaya siya, masaya siya.’ Masaya kami,” he explained to Pep.ph.
In October 2018, Romnick and Harlene released a joint statement to announce they were separating two years after they opened their restaurant Salu. They have five kids, one boy and four girls, and the eldest is 21 years old while the youngest is 6. Fans had been shocked and sad to hear the news.

Romnick disclosed that after the split, he moved out and got his own place and is still getting used to not going home to his kids and waking up having them beside him on the bed. “Kasi sanay na ako talaga sa mga anak ko. It gets [to] you. You have to be very positive [about] it.”
Despite what happened, Romnick says he has not lost hope in marriage, so when newlyweds ask him it is like, he’d reply: “I’d still say that getting married was still the best [thing] that ever happened to me. I have five beautiful children that I would never get kung hindi ako nagpakasal, di ba?”
Romnic says he and Harlene remain committed to raising their children together, adding there was no third party involved for the marriage ending. “It’s just something that has happened along the way and, you know, I guess we woke up realizing na eto na yun."

The actor is moving on and admitted he’s dating but has not introduced any special someone to his kids. “Ang ayaw ko sa lahat yung may ipakikilala ako sa mga anak ko na pagkatapos ng ilang buwan, may iba ka namang ipapakilala…may mali doon, e,” he said.
Romnick only has one condition for anyone who wants to be part of their lives. “Dapat maayos ang pakikitungo sa mga anak ko. I don’t even think it’s a negotiable thing. Automatic yun na dapat maayos ka sa mga bata,” he said. “Pag hindi, ibang usapan na yun.”
